Xtend-a-Sight™ Plus: Red Dot Sight Mounting
Typically, it’s difficult to properly capture a moving object because either the LCD on the back of the camera doesn’t react quickly enough, or if you’re using the viewfinder, you tend to over-anticipate the position of the object. Enter the Photosolve Xtend-a-Sight Plus, a 4th Generation version of the Xtend-a-Sight that allows you mount a Red Dot Sight commonly known as RDS, typically found attached to rifles and pistols to the flash shoe of your camera. This allows you to track moving objects much more accurately than the LCD or the viewfinder because the LCD generally "locks up" for a short while during processing of a picture and the viewfinder of a DSLR is "blanked" during the mirror up routine, or because of its limited view, it's difficult to keep a moving object in sight.
There used to be a “sports sight” on a lot of older model cameras that allowed you a wider view of the shooting area, and you could capture the pictures fairly easily. As with most things, that’s gone the way of the dinosaur. So here’s a modern approach to the sighting problem. The Red Dot sight is generally mounted to rifles and pistols and provides an accurate way to sight the weapon. A small red dot appears on a viewing surface that you keep “centered” on the object while you’re moving the camera.
Interestingly enough Olympus made their own official red dot sight hotshoe system called the EE-1 Dot Sight for its OM-D E-M5 Mark II or Stylus 1 Camera. (Below)
Please Note: The Xtend-a-Sight is designed to fit a standard flash shoe on a camera. It will NOT, without an adapter fit a proprietary Sony flash shoe. However Photosolve does sell a Sony adapter for the mount. If you don't have a flash shoe on your camera, you can also mount the Xtend-a-Sight on a flash bracket, align the camera and the sight, and you're all set. Xtend-a-Sight is warranted for a period of 90 days. If during that time, the unit becomes defective, it should be returned to tPhotosolve for replacement. Xtend-a-Sight™ Plus is made in the USA.
